“It’s great to have this place nearby”: Marmande beach, the summer spot

Until the end of August, the Filhole site is open every afternoon

Who said that to rediscover the sensations of warm sand and temperate water, you had to go to the Atlantic coast? Every summer since 2011 (apart from an installation on another bank in 2019), the City of Marmande has been developing one end of the Filhole plain.

Marked for approximately 100 meters, all under the supervision of a lifeguard, the site allows many people to enjoy the pleasures of the beach at home. Nestled among the trees, this beach offers a true haven of peace, an extension of the Filhole.

The birdsong blends seamlessly with the soothing sound of the water, creating an ideal setting for a stroll on a beautiful, sunny afternoon. The water is also regularly monitored to ensure its quality.

Every day, depending on the weather, dozens of people show up during opening hours (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.). To give you an idea, more than a thousand people set foot on the Marmande sand during the first week.

It must be said that this development represents a great opportunity to enjoy a summer swim and build memories, as Sophie confides. "We live in Marmande and it's great to have this place nearby, especially for my daughter. I don't have a license and don't have a swimming pool, so it allows us to swim in the summer. We're fans!"

Although the beach area is located at the end of Filhole Park, the City has set up a shuttle bus from the city center to provide a drop-off point as close as possible. This initiative was welcomed by Nadine, a resident of the Cité de la Tomate: "It saves time and is great for people who have difficulty getting around." This allows residents to be dropped off in front of the beach, without having to cross the Filhole plain.

The people of Marmande aren't the only ones who enjoy this place. Tourists are also delighted. Like Anita, originally from Flanders, who was visiting with her husband and child. "The place is pleasant, and we don't regret coming," she says.

The Marmande beach area, which is equipped and supervised, is open until August 31, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
